Le rail supporte le poids et les charges dynamiques du train. Sa surface s'use et sa t\u00eate subit des chocs. Le rail est \u00e9galement soumis \u00e0 d'importantes contraintes de flexion. Il utilise principalement les \u00e9l\u00e9ments carbone et mangan\u00e8se pr\u00e9sents dans le minerai pour renforcer la r\u00e9sistance du rail. L'acier ordinaire pour rails de chemin de fer au carbone est compos\u00e9 de 0,401 % \u00e0 0,801 % de carbone et de moins de 1,301 % \u00e0 1,41 % de mangan\u00e8se.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Acier alli\u00e9<\/h3>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">L'acier alli\u00e9 est un rail en acier obtenu par fusion et laminage apr\u00e8s ajout de quantit\u00e9s appropri\u00e9es d'\u00e9l\u00e9ments d'alliage, tels que le vanadium, le titane, le chrome et l'\u00e9tain, au minerai de fer d'origine. La r\u00e9sistance et la t\u00e9nacit\u00e9 de ce type de rail sont sup\u00e9rieures \u00e0 celles d'un rail au carbone.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Acier trait\u00e9 thermiquement<\/h3>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">L'acier trait\u00e9 thermiquement est un rail en acier obtenu par chauffage et refroidissement contr\u00f4l\u00e9 d'un rail en acier au carbone ou en alliage lamin\u00e9 \u00e0 chaud. La structure perlitique du rail trait\u00e9 thermiquement est plus fine que celle du rail lamin\u00e9 \u00e0 chaud, ce qui lui conf\u00e8re une r\u00e9sistance et une t\u00e9nacit\u00e9 sup\u00e9rieures. Le rail tremp\u00e9 apr\u00e8s traitement thermique pr\u00e9sente une couche de correction de trempe \u00e0 l'extr\u00e9mit\u00e9 du rail, ce qui am\u00e9liore consid\u00e9rablement ses propri\u00e9t\u00e9s m\u00e9caniques et permet ainsi de prolonger sa dur\u00e9e de vie.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">La composition chimique de l'acier utilis\u00e9 pour les voies ferr\u00e9es<\/h2>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table is-style-regular\">\n<table class=\"has-accent-2-background-color has-background\">\n<thead>\n<tr>\n<th><strong>Non.<\/strong><\/th>\n<th><strong>\u00c9l\u00e9ment<\/strong><\/th>\n<th class=\"has-text-align-left\" data-align=\"left\"><strong>Fonction<\/strong><\/th>\n<\/tr>\n<\/thead>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>1<\/td>\n<td>C<\/td>\n<td class=\"has-text-align-left\" data-align=\"left\">Am\u00e9liorer la r\u00e9sistance m\u00e9canique, la duret\u00e9 et la r\u00e9sistance \u00e0 l'usure du rail. La teneur en carbone des rails nationaux est comprise entre 0,651 % et 0,821 %. Lorsque la teneur en carbone est relativement \u00e9lev\u00e9e, l'acier devient cassant et son indice de plasticit\u00e9 diminue consid\u00e9rablement. Par ailleurs, cela augmente le risque d'apparition de taches blanches dans l'acier.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>2<\/td>\n<td>Si<\/td>\n<td class=\"has-text-align-left\" data-align=\"left\">Il se combine facilement avec les compos\u00e9s oxydants et peut contribuer \u00e0 \u00e9liminer les bulles dans le m\u00e9tal. L'acier contient une quantit\u00e9 appropri\u00e9e de silicium, ce qui permet d'am\u00e9liorer sa duret\u00e9 et sa r\u00e9sistance \u00e0 l'usure. La teneur en silicium de l'acier ferroviaire national est g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement comprise entre 0,159 et 0,91 %, mais une teneur trop \u00e9lev\u00e9e rend l'acier dur et cassant, et favorise la formation de pores dans la soudure.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>3<\/td>\n<td>Mn<\/td>\n<td class=\"has-text-align-left\" data-align=\"left\">C'est un \u00e9l\u00e9ment b\u00e9n\u00e9fique qui peut am\u00e9liorer la r\u00e9sistance m\u00e9canique et la r\u00e9sistance \u00e0 l'usure de l'acier, tout en augmentant sa t\u00e9nacit\u00e9. Il permet d'\u00e9liminer les inclusions nocives d'oxyde de fer et de sulfure pr\u00e9sentes dans l'acier. La teneur en mangan\u00e8se est g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement maintenue entre 0,61 % et 1,541 %. L'acier dont la teneur en mangan\u00e8se est sup\u00e9rieure \u00e0 1,21 % est appel\u00e9 acier \u00e0 teneur moyenne en mangan\u00e8se, et sa r\u00e9sistance \u00e0 l'usure est tr\u00e8s \u00e9lev\u00e9e.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>4<\/td>\n<td>Cu<\/td>\n<td class=\"has-text-align-left\" data-align=\"left\">C'est un \u00e9l\u00e9ment b\u00e9n\u00e9fique. L'acier contient une faible quantit\u00e9 de compos\u00e9s de cuivre, qui peuvent am\u00e9liorer sa r\u00e9sistance \u00e0 la fatigue et \u00e0 la corrosion. La teneur en cuivre des rails en acier nationaux se situe g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement entre 0,101 % et 0,401 %. Si le processus de laminage du rail contenant du cuivre n'est pas satisfaisant, des fissures en forme d'ar\u00eates de poisson appara\u00eetront \u00e0 la surface du rail.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>5<\/td>\n<td>P<\/td>\n<td class=\"has-text-align-left\" data-align=\"left\">Il s'agit d'un \u00e9l\u00e9ment nocif. Le principal danger li\u00e9 au phosphure r\u00e9side dans le fait qu'il r\u00e9duit la plasticit\u00e9 et la t\u00e9nacit\u00e9 de l'acier. En particulier \u00e0 basse temp\u00e9rature, la fragilit\u00e9 \u00e0 froid de l'acier augmente, ce qui entra\u00eene facilement la rupture des rails ; sa teneur est donc limit\u00e9e \u00e0 0,041 % maximum.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>6<\/td>\n<td>S<\/td>\n<td class=\"has-text-align-left\" data-align=\"left\">Le soufre est un \u00e9l\u00e9ment nocif. Il reste souvent pr\u00e9sent dans l'acier sous forme de granules. Lors du laminage du rail, il est lamin\u00e9 avec l'acier pour former des t\u00f4les, ce qui provoque un d\u00e9laminage ou des fissures longitudinales dans le rail. La teneur en soufre est contr\u00f4l\u00e9e et ne doit pas d\u00e9passer 0,051 %.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Les principaux \u00e9l\u00e9ments chimiques et leurs fonctions dans les rails, \u00e0 l'exception du fer<\/figcaption>\n<\/figure>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Les propri\u00e9t\u00e9s m\u00e9caniques des mat\u00e9riaux m\u00e9talliques utilis\u00e9s pour les voies ferr\u00e9es<\/h2>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Force<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Capacit\u00e9 du rail \u00e0 r\u00e9sister \u00e0 la d\u00e9formation et aux dommages sous l'effet d'une charge. Elle est souvent exprim\u00e9e en termes de limite de r\u00e9sistance, de limite d'\u00e9lasticit\u00e9 et d'autres indicateurs. La limite de r\u00e9sistance (r\u00e9sistance \u00e0 la traction) d\u00e9signe la capacit\u00e9 du mat\u00e9riau m\u00e9tallique \u00e0 r\u00e9sister \u00e0 une charge de traction et la contrainte maximale \u00e0 laquelle il ne se rompt pas. La limite d'\u00e9lasticit\u00e9 (r\u00e9sistance \u00e0 la d\u00e9formation) d\u00e9signe la contrainte \u00e0 laquelle le mat\u00e9riau m\u00e9tallique peut encore subir une d\u00e9formation plastique significative sans augmentation de la charge. L'unit\u00e9 est le MPa.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Plasticit\u00e9<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Le mat\u00e9riau m\u00e9tallique subit une d\u00e9formation importante sans se rompre sous l'effet de la charge et conserve sa forme d\u00e9form\u00e9e une fois la charge supprim\u00e9e. Cette propri\u00e9t\u00e9 est souvent exprim\u00e9e en termes d'allongement et de retrait. L'allongement correspond au pourcentage obtenu en divisant la longueur mesur\u00e9e apr\u00e8s rupture de l'\u00e9chantillon par sa longueur mesur\u00e9e \u00e0 l'origine. Le r\u00e9tr\u00e9cissement de la section est le pourcentage du rapport entre la r\u00e9duction de la section de rupture de l'\u00e9chantillon et la section d'origine.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Duret\u00e9<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Capacit\u00e9 d'un mat\u00e9riau m\u00e9tallique \u00e0 r\u00e9sister \u00e0 la pression exerc\u00e9e par un autre objet (ou mat\u00e9riau) plus dur sur sa surface. Selon les diff\u00e9rentes m\u00e9thodes de mesure, on distingue la duret\u00e9 Brinell (HB) et la duret\u00e9 Rockwell (HRC).<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">L'exp\u00e9rience a montr\u00e9 qu'il existe une certaine corr\u00e9lation entre la duret\u00e9 et la r\u00e9sistance, qui peut \u00eatre estim\u00e9e \u00e0 partir de la valeur de duret\u00e9 Brinell.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Calculez la r\u00e9sistance \u00e0 la traction du mat\u00e9riau. Par exemple, pour l'acier \u00e0 faible teneur en carbone, 6b \u2248 0,36 HB, et pour l'acier \u00e0 haute teneur en carbone, 6b \u2248 0,34 HB.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>R\u00e9silience<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Capacit\u00e9 des mat\u00e9riaux m\u00e9talliques \u00e0 r\u00e9sister aux charges de choc sans subir de dommages. La t\u00e9nacit\u00e9 des mat\u00e9riaux m\u00e9talliques peut \u00eatre mesur\u00e9e par un essai de choc et exprim\u00e9e par la valeur de t\u00e9nacit\u00e9 au choc \u03b1k en kJ\/m<sup>2<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>R\u00e9sistance \u00e0 la fatigue<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sous l'effet d'une charge altern\u00e9e, le mat\u00e9riau se rompt. La capacit\u00e9 des mat\u00e9riaux m\u00e9talliques \u00e0 r\u00e9sister \u00e0 la fatigue est mesur\u00e9e par la r\u00e9sistance \u00e0 la fatigue.
