Il a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9montr\u00e9 que le d\u00e9raillement d'un train express de voyageurs, qui a entra\u00een\u00e9 la mort de plusieurs d'entre eux, \u00e9tait d\u00fb \u00e0 la fatigue de contact de roulement (FCR), dans laquelle de minuscules fissures dans le champignon du rail s'\u00e9tendent vers le bas dans le corps du rail, ce qui finit par provoquer une rupture.<\/p><p>Les statistiques produites par la Federal Railroad Administration aux \u00c9tats-Unis sugg\u00e8rent que le FCR a \u00e9t\u00e9 fortement impliqu\u00e9 dans 122 d\u00e9raillements et qu'il pourrait avoir \u00e9t\u00e9 un facteur contributif dans 160 autres incidents au cours de la p\u00e9riode 1995-2002.<\/p><p>Gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 de telles statistiques, la FCR est largement accept\u00e9e comme un probl\u00e8me qui doit \u00eatre g\u00e9r\u00e9 par les administrations ferroviaires. Ne rien faire n'est pas une option : le Royaume-Uni a cess\u00e9 les op\u00e9rations de meulage des rails quelques ann\u00e9es avant l'accident, et il est d\u00e9sormais admis que cette d\u00e9cision n'\u00e9tait pas judicieuse. Le meulage rase la surface sup\u00e9rieure du rail, \u00e9liminant les fissures avant qu'elles n'aient une chance de se propager vers le bas dans l'\u00e2me et pr\u00e9venant ainsi les ruptures de rail.<\/p><div id=\"europ-3f6ba8490e2ad7826762e3f12fa2d588\" class=\"europ-3f6ba8490e2ad7826762e3f12fa2d588 europ-content\">\u00a0<\/div><p>Une \u00e9tude de la Commission europ\u00e9enne sugg\u00e8re que la gestion des FCR est un exercice co\u00fbteux, avec un chiffre de 300 millions d'euros mentionn\u00e9 pour la gestion du probl\u00e8me chaque ann\u00e9e sur le r\u00e9seau ferroviaire europ\u00e9en. Ce montant comprend les activit\u00e9s d'inspection, de meulage des rails, de remplacement des rails et de r\u00e9paration des soudures, ainsi que les inconv\u00e9nients li\u00e9s aux retards des trains et aux d\u00e9raillements lorsqu'ils se produisent.<\/p><p>Il est clair que ce probl\u00e8me m\u00e9rite que l'on s'y attarde et que les administrations ferroviaires doivent se tenir au courant des derni\u00e8res technologies si elles veulent minimiser le co\u00fbt de la FCR.<\/p><h2>Gestion du FCR<\/h2><p>Dans une \u00e9tude r\u00e9alis\u00e9e pour le Conseil national de la recherche du Canada, Eric Magel, Peter Sroba, Kevin Sawley et Joe Kalousek affirment que \u201cde nombreux facteurs interagissent pour influencer la FCR\u201d, citant notamment la duret\u00e9 des rails, les profils d\u00e9taill\u00e9s des roues et des rails et la dynamique lat\u00e9rale et longitudinale de l'essieu. Mais ils ajoutent que \u201cla FCR est particuli\u00e8rement sensible aux profils des roues et des rails et que des profils inappropri\u00e9s ou non contr\u00f4l\u00e9s peuvent compl\u00e8tement masquer les effets de la m\u00e9tallurgie\u201d.\u201d<\/p><p>Les chercheurs ajoutent qu'au Royaume-Uni, l'exp\u00e9rience g\u00e9n\u00e9rale a montr\u00e9 que les aciers \u00e0 haute r\u00e9sistance sont plus enclins \u00e0 former des FCR - \u201cune constatation qui peut s'expliquer par la section de rail \u00e0 haute contrainte utilis\u00e9e et l'incapacit\u00e9 des aciers durs \u00e0 s'user ou \u00e0 s'\u00e9couler vers une forme \u00e0 plus faible contrainte\u201d. L'exp\u00e9rience britannique montre \u00e9galement que si le rail est initialement meul\u00e9 pour obtenir une forme moins contrainte, il r\u00e9siste beaucoup mieux \u00e0 la FCR que les aciers plus tendres. Cela souligne l'importance du meulage initial des rails.<\/p><p>Les chercheurs canadiens expliquent l'importance du \u2018taux d'usure magique\u2019, c'est-\u00e0-dire le processus qui consiste \u00e0 enlever juste ce qu'il faut de la surface du rail pour emp\u00eacher la propagation des fissures. \u201cDans les voies avec FCR, le taux d'usure naturelle doit \u00eatre compl\u00e9t\u00e9 par un meulage pour atteindre le taux d'usure magique\u201d, affirment-ils. Le taux d'usure magique est g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement plus \u00e9lev\u00e9 dans les courbes que sur les voies droites, l'exp\u00e9rience nord-am\u00e9ricaine sur les lignes \u00e0 fort tonnage montrant que le rail inf\u00e9rieur dans les courbes doit \u00eatre soigneusement g\u00e9r\u00e9 par meulage pour atteindre le taux d'usure magique.<\/p><h2>Speno \u00e0 la pointe de l'innovation<\/h2><p>Il y a quelques ann\u00e9es, Speno International a commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 \u00e9tudier la possibilit\u00e9 de d\u00e9tecter les fissures de fatigue superficielle pendant le meulage. Un d\u00e9veloppement conjoint avec Deutsche Bahn AG a abouti \u00e0 un syst\u00e8me d'enregistrement capable de mesurer la densit\u00e9 des d\u00e9fauts et la profondeur des dommages.<\/p><p>Apr\u00e8s des essais intensifs sur piste avec un prototype, six machines de meulage Speno ont \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9quip\u00e9es du \u2018Headcheck Grinding Scanner\u2019 de la soci\u00e9t\u00e9. Ce syst\u00e8me permet aux op\u00e9rateurs de v\u00e9rifier la r\u00e9duction des d\u00e9fauts de fatigue lors de chaque passage de meulage et de documenter le r\u00e9sultat obtenu en ce qui concerne l'enl\u00e8vement du m\u00e9tal de la surface du rail fatigu\u00e9. Le syst\u00e8me est entr\u00e9 en service commercial aupr\u00e8s de plusieurs chemins de fer europ\u00e9ens, notamment en Autriche, en France, aux Pays-Bas et en Pologne.<\/p><p>L'arriv\u00e9e du \u2018Headcheck Grinding Scanner\u2019 est la derni\u00e8re d'une longue liste d'innovations de Speno. Dans les ann\u00e9es 1980, l'entreprise a introduit un train de meulage avec des moteurs de meulage inclinables t\u00e9l\u00e9command\u00e9s. Il a \u00e9t\u00e9 pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 pour la premi\u00e8re fois il y a un an, au d\u00e9but de l'ann\u00e9e 2008, et l'entreprise affirme avoir obtenu de tr\u00e8s bons r\u00e9sultats sur des syst\u00e8mes de m\u00e9tro l\u00e9ger en Asie.<\/p><p>Le concept de profilage du rail par fraisage en un seul passage est d\u00e9j\u00e0 bien connu gr\u00e2ce aux machines pr\u00e9c\u00e9dentes de Linsinger, et la SF 01 F s'appuie sur cette exp\u00e9rience.
