Se demostr\u00f3 que el descarrilamiento de un tren expreso de pasajeros, en el que hubo v\u00edctimas mortales, fue causado por la fatiga por contacto rodante (RCF), en la que peque\u00f1as grietas en la cabeza del riel se extendieron hacia el cuerpo del riel, provocando finalmente una rotura.<\/p><p>Las estad\u00edsticas elaboradas por la Administraci\u00f3n Federal de Ferrocarriles de los Estados Unidos sugieren que el RCF estuvo fuertemente implicado en 122 descarrilamientos y pudo haber sido un factor contribuyente en otros 160 incidentes durante el periodo 1995-2002.<\/p><p>Como resultado de estad\u00edsticas como estas, el RCF es ampliamente aceptado como un problema que deben gestionar las administraciones ferroviarias. No hacer nada no es una opci\u00f3n: el Reino Unido dej\u00f3 de realizar operaciones de rectificado de rieles unos a\u00f1os antes del accidente, y ahora se acepta que no fue una decisi\u00f3n acertada. El rectificado raspa la superficie superior del riel, eliminando las grietas antes de que tengan oportunidad de propagarse hacia la alma y evitando as\u00ed roturas en los rieles.<\/p><div id=\"europ-3f6ba8490e2ad7826762e3f12fa2d588\" class=\"europ-3f6ba8490e2ad7826762e3f12fa2d588 europ-content\">\u00a0<\/div><p>Un estudio de la Comisi\u00f3n Europea sugiere que el manejo de la RCF es una tarea costosa, con una cifra de 300 millones de euros mencionada para manejar el problema cada a\u00f1o en la red ferroviaria europea. Este total incluye las actividades de inspecci\u00f3n, rectificado de rieles, sustituci\u00f3n de rieles y reparaci\u00f3n de soldaduras, junto con los aspectos negativos de los retrasos y descarrilamientos de trenes cuando estos ocurren.<\/p><p>Es evidente que se trata de un problema que merece la atenci\u00f3n de los directivos, y que las administraciones ferroviarias deben mantenerse al d\u00eda de las \u00faltimas tecnolog\u00edas si quieren minimizar el costo del RCF.<\/p><h2>Gesti\u00f3n de RCF<\/h2><p>En un estudio realizado para el Consejo Nacional de Investigaci\u00f3n de Canad\u00e1, Eric Magel, Peter Sroba, Kevin Sawley y Joe Kalousek afirman que \u201cson muchos los factores que interact\u00faan e influyen en la RCF\u201d, citando entre otros la dureza del riel, los perfiles detallados de las ruedas y los rieles, y la din\u00e1mica lateral y longitudinal de los ejes montados. Sin embargo, se\u00f1alan que \u201cla RCF es especialmente sensible a los perfiles de las ruedas y los rieles, y que unos perfiles inadecuados o no controlados pueden enmascarar por completo los efectos de la metalurgia\u201d.\u201d<\/p><p>Los investigadores a\u00f1aden que, en el Reino Unido, la experiencia general ha sido que los aceros de alta resistencia son m\u00e1s propensos a formar RCF, \u201cun hallazgo que puede explicarse por la secci\u00f3n de riel de alta tensi\u00f3n empleada y la incapacidad de los aceros duros para desgastarse o fluir hacia una forma de menor tensi\u00f3n\u201d. La experiencia brit\u00e1nica tambi\u00e9n ha demostrado que si el riel se rectifica inicialmente a una forma de menor tensi\u00f3n, es mucho m\u00e1s resistente a la RCF que los aceros m\u00e1s blandos. Esto pone de relieve la importancia de la rectificaci\u00f3n inicial de los rieles.<\/p><p>Los investigadores canadienses explican la importancia de la \u2018tasa de desgaste m\u00e1gica\u2019, el proceso de eliminar solo la cantidad adecuada de la superficie del riel para evitar la propagaci\u00f3n de grietas. \u201cEn v\u00edas con RCF, la tasa de desgaste natural debe complementarse con rectificado para alcanzar la tasa de desgaste m\u00e1gica\u201d, afirman. La tasa de desgaste m\u00e1gica suele ser mayor en las curvas que en las rectas, y la experiencia norteamericana en l\u00edneas de gran tonelaje demuestra que el carril inferior en las curvas debe gestionarse cuidadosamente mediante rectificado para alcanzar la tasa de desgaste m\u00e1gica.<\/p><h2>Speno a la vanguardia de la innovaci\u00f3n<\/h2><p>Hace algunos a\u00f1os, Speno International comenz\u00f3 a investigar la posibilidad de detectar grietas por fatiga superficiales durante el rectificado. Un desarrollo conjunto con Deutsche Bahn AG dio como resultado un sistema de registro capaz de medir la densidad de los defectos y la profundidad de los da\u00f1os.<\/p><p>Tras realizar pruebas intensivas en v\u00eda con un prototipo, se han equipado seis rectificadoras Speno con el \u2018Headcheck Grinding Scanner\u2019 de la empresa. El sistema permite a los operadores comprobar la reducci\u00f3n de los defectos por fatiga durante cada pasada de rectificado y documentar el resultado obtenido en cuanto a la eliminaci\u00f3n de metal de la superficie fatigada del riel. El sistema ha entrado en servicio comercial en varias compa\u00f1\u00edas ferroviarias europeas, entre ellas las de Austria, Francia, los Pa\u00edses Bajos y Polonia.<\/p><p>La llegada del \u2018Headcheck Grinding Scanner\u2019 es la \u00faltima de una larga lista de innovaciones de Speno. En la d\u00e9cada de 1980, la empresa introdujo un tren de rectificado con motores de rectificado inclinables controlados a distancia. A esto le sigui\u00f3 la primera m\u00e1quina rectificadora de cambios, el primer equipo de medici\u00f3n a bordo para la secci\u00f3n transversal del riel y la introducci\u00f3n de sistemas de recolecci\u00f3n de polvo.<\/p><p>Speno est\u00e1 trabajando con los administradores de infraestructuras ferroviarias en formas de abordar defectos y problemas espec\u00edficos del ferrocarril generados por el intenso tr\u00e1fico ferroviario. La empresa participa en el proyecto de investigaci\u00f3n europeo \u2018Innotrack\u2019, que re\u00fane la experiencia y los conocimientos t\u00e9cnicos de varias organizaciones ferroviarias y de la industria.<\/p><p>Speno preside el proyecto de trabajo 4.5 \u2018Mantenimiento ferroviario\u2019 dentro del programa Innotrack. La empresa afirma que sus 30 unidades rectificadoras de rieles en funcionamiento en Europa en 2009 constituyen, con diferencia, la mayor flota de trenes rectificadores bajo un mismo techo. \u201cLa larga experiencia en el dise\u00f1o, la fabricaci\u00f3n y la explotaci\u00f3n de trenes rectificadores proporciona un rendimiento excelente, combinando un alto rendimiento por turno y una calidad controlada de forma constante d\u00eda a d\u00eda\u201d, afirma Speno.<\/p><p>Speno reconoce que el trabajo rutinario de rectificado hoy en d\u00eda comprende:<\/p><ul><li>Rectificado inicial de rieles nuevos, rectificado c\u00edclico preventivo y correctivo.<\/li><li>Aplicaci\u00f3n de perfiles especiales para reducir el desgaste elevado de los rieles, mitigar la fatiga de las esquinas del ancho de v\u00eda y mejorar el comportamiento de rodadura, incluido el ensanchamiento del ancho de v\u00eda.<\/li><li>Rectificado antirruido para minimizar el ruido generado por el tr\u00e1fico ferroviario.<\/li><\/ul><p>Actualmente, el rectificado de una sola pasada con m\u00e1quinas de alta resistencia se lleva a cabo en l\u00edneas de alta velocidad. \u201cEs muy importante contar con personal experimentado y con conocimientos\u201d, afirma Speno. La empresa afirma que el truco no solo consiste en eliminar una determinada cantidad de metal en una sola pasada, sino tambi\u00e9n en garantizar una tasa m\u00ednima de eliminaci\u00f3n de metal.<\/p><h2>Nuevo veh\u00edculo fresador Linsinger para LRT<\/h2><p>Tambi\u00e9n dirigido al sector del tren ligero est\u00e1 el tren fresador SF 01 F de la empresa austriaca Linsinger. Este sali\u00f3 al mercado hace un a\u00f1o, a principios de 2008, y la empresa afirma que ha obtenido muy buenos resultados en los sistemas de tren ligero de Asia.<\/p><p>El concepto de perfilar el riel mediante fresado en una sola pasada ya es bien conocido gracias a m\u00e1quinas anteriores de Linsinger, y la SF 01 F se basa en esta experiencia.
